The AArrow Sign Spinners were honored to have spun for the grand opening of the West Oakland Health Council’s optometry department, in partnership with the UC Berkeley School of Optometry.

Founded by four women in 1967, the WOHC was one of the first federally recognized community health centers in the country, and services 21,000 patients a year from this facility in the Acorn neighborhood of West Oakland.  Mayor Libby Schaaf, the dean of the UC Berkeley School of Optometry, John G. Flanagan, and the board of directors each gave passionate speeches about how uncorrected eye care continues to be a major cause of blindness, but everyone in attendance was happy to unite with the historic WOHC to provide optometry services for those in need.
